We went along to see Jonathan creating live visuals alongside John Foxx at his recent Roundhouse concert. We managed to take a few (slightly blurry) photos, which you can see below. You can also see a few photos of the performance on D.T.Morris’ flickr stream. A DVD of the concert will be available later this year.

This Saturday, Jonathan will be mixing live visuals during a performance by electronic music pioneer John Foxx at the Roundhouse in Camden, London. To whet your appetite for the performance, we have posted a couple of VJ clips on our Vimeo site.

The first clip, for the song This City re-appropriates archive documentary footage and mixes it with fake film titles of the track name and lyrics, referring back to the evocative, cinematic work that was done for the DNA DVD.

Not content with contributing to — and designing — the latest John Foxx release, Jonathan has been invited to create live visuals for Foxx’s upcoming show at the Roundhouse, London. Mr Barnbrook will be mixing animation, archive film footage and custom typography to a selection of tracks during Foxx’s show.

We are pleased to announce our involvement in the forthcoming John Foxx DVD and CD release, DNA. Jonathan has created two short films for the DVD, which features unique collaborations between John Foxx and some of his favourite film-makers. The two films that have been included are A Half-Remembered Sentence From The Quiet Man and Clicktrack.

The animation for A Half-Remembered Sentence From The Quiet Man takes one sentence from Foxx’s written work The Quiet Man and illustrates it with a dreamlike quality reminiscent of the nature of the text and the main characters approach to the idea of the city. Jonathan created a special elongated version for DNA, you can view a shorter version here.

The animation for Clicktrack uses analogue sound archive tape from John Foxx’s pioneering electronic album Metamatic. The sounds were left unedited with all gaps and hisses left in. You can view the animation here.

As well as creating two animations for the DVD, we were also responsible for the packaging design. The design draws inspiration from the elaborate title sequences of early twentieth century cinema, whilst evoking the black-and-white stylistic expressionism of Film noir.

The second animation of work inspired by Electronic Musician John Foxx has now been uploaded

This animation takes one sentence from Foxx’s written work The Quiet Man and illustrates it with a dreamlike quality reminiscent of the nature of the text and the main characters approach to the idea of the city. A longer, more ambient version of this video will be uploaded in the next few weeks.

Jonathan barnbrook recently produced two animations for the exhibition ‘DNA’ in London celebrating the influence of pioneering electronic musician and artist John Foxx.

The first animation is available here. The other one will be posted in a few weeks. The animation was created to a sound archive tape made in 1980 at the recording of John Foxx’s pioneering album Metamatic. The tape was used unedited with all gaps, hisses etc in place. The lyrics of the album are the used for the words that appear throughout.

John Foxx’s graphic work was one of the major influences upon Jonathan when he was a student of design, so he was delighted to be part of this exhibition. Hopefully there will be more collaborations between them next year.
